Supply-Only or DIY Pool Package FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions #

Supply-Only or DIY Pool Package FAQs: #

  • Do you offer supply-only pools?

Yes. We supply premium fiberglass pool shells with optional equipment packages and arrange delivery directly to your site. This option suits DIY installers, owner-builders, landscapers, pool builders, or anyone coordinating their own trades.

  • What areas do you service for supply-only?

We supply pools across all eastern Australian states — from Wilsons Promontory (VIC) to Cape York (QLD) — including metro, regional and remote locations.

  • What comes in a standard supply-only pool package?

    Your package typically includes:

    • Fiberglass pool shell with skimmer box, hydrostatic valve and return eyeballs

    • Your selected pump, filter, sanitiser and LED lights (if choosing an equipment package)

    • Delivery to your property

    • Manufacturer documentation and engineering drawings

    Optional upgrades include:

    • Heating systems

    • Robotic cleaners

    • Chemical dosing systems

    • Pool automation

    • Additional LED lights

    • Covers and rollers

    • Salt, minerals & start-up chemicals

  • What is NOT included in a supply-only pool package?

Items organised by the customer include:

    • Council / certifier fees

    • Excavation

    • Crane hire

    • Pool plumbing (pipework and installation)

    • Backfill materials

    • Concrete bond beam

    • Electrical work

    • Fencing and gates

    • Surrounds (paving, coping, tiling)

    • Landscaping

  • Do I still need council or certifier approval for a supply-only pool?

Yes. Whether DIY or using your own builder, formal approval is required in every state (CDC/DA in NSW, Building Approval in QLD, Building Permit in VIC).

  • Do you assist DIY customers with approvals?

Yes — we provide all required technical documents, including:

    • Engineering drawings

    • Bond beam drawings

    • Shell specifications

    • Plumbing diagrams

    • Certificates of compliance

You lodge the application and coordinate inspections.

  • What documents do DIY installers receive?

After acceptance of your proposal, you receive:

    • Standard engineering drawings

    • Bond beam engineering

    • Plumbing layout drawings

    • Certificates of compliance

    • Installation guide

    • Equipment manuals

  • Can you supply site-specific engineering if required?

    We provide standard manufacturer engineering.

If your council or certifier requires site-specific structural engineering (e.g., steep slopes, reactive soils, retaining walls, sewer encroachments), this must be arranged by the customer.

  • Can I install a supply-only pool myself?

Yes. Many experienced homeowners, landscapers and builders complete DIY installs.

    However, you must follow:

    • Engineering requirements

    • Approval conditions

    • Safety standards

    • Correct levelling and backfill techniques

    • Manufacturer installation instructions

Note: Incorrect installation can void warranties.

  • What skills are required for DIY installation?

You or your trades should be competent in:

    • Excavation & levelling

    • Laser levelling and base preparation

    • Plumbing (50mm pressure pipework)

    • Backfilling to engineering standards

    • Concrete bond beam preparation and pouring

    • Reading engineering drawings

    • Coordinating trades (excavation, crane, electrician)

Most DIY customers subcontract excavation, plumbing, concreting and electrical components.

  • Is a DIY kit cheaper than a fully installed pool?

Yes. DIY can save $10,000–$25,000 depending on:

    • Access

    • Soil conditions

    • Crane distance

    • Chosen equipment

    • How many trades you hire

    • The amount and type of work you do yourself

  • What extra costs should DIY installers expect?

    Common additional expenses include:

    • Council/certifier fees

    • Excavation

    • Rock removal (if encountered)

    • Soil removal / tip fees

    • Crane hire

    • Backfill material

    • Concrete bond beam

    • Electrical work

    • Paving, tiling or decking

    • Fencing & barrier certification

    • Landscaping

  • What size truck delivers the pool?

    Depending on pool length:

    • Large rigid truck, or

    • Low-loader semi-trailer

We confirm the vehicle type once your pool model is selected.

  • What access is needed for delivery?

    You will need:

    • A clear, wide street for a large truck

    • No low trees, wires or obstructions

    • Safe operating space for the truck-mounted Hiab crane

We assess this using photos, maps or site plans.

  • How should I prepare the site before delivery?

    Ideally:

    • Excavation is complete

    • Base is level and compacted

    • Crane access is organised

    • A safe storage area is available if not lifting into the hole immediately

We provide an installation preparation guide.

  • Do I need a crane to unload the pool?

No. Our trucks are fitted with a Hiab crane to unload the pool safely.

  • Can the delivery driver put the pool directly into the hole?

Usually no. Drivers are not contracted or insured to lift into the hole.

You may ask the driver on the day, but:

    • It is entirely at their discretion

    • Additional fees apply directly to the driver

    • Safety, reach and time constraints usually prevent this

We strongly recommend arranging your own crane.

  • What happens if access is too tight on delivery day?

A bigger crane or longer reach may be required

    • Delivery may be postponed

    • Redelivery fees may apply

Providing accurate site information avoids issues.

  • Can I pick up the pool myself?

Yes, if you have a suitable vehicle (tilt tray or semi) and meet transport compliance requirements. Prior approval is required.

  • What backfill material should I use?

Most pools require stabilised crusher dust or sand mixed with cement as specified in the AS/NZS standards. Follow the standards precisely.

  • Do DIY pools still require a bond beam?

Yes. All fiberglass pools require a reinforced concrete bond beam.

    Your engineering documentation details:

    • Thickness

    • Height

    • Reinforcement

    • Concrete strength

  • What plumbing work is required?

    You will need to install:

    • Suction lines

    • Return lines

    • Skimmer plumbing

    • Equipment connections

All pipework must be pressure-rated and compliant with AS/NZS standards.

  • Do I need to hire an electrician?

Yes. A licensed electrician is required for:

    • Pump power

    • Lighting

    • Heating

    • Earthing/bonding

    • Switchboards or isolation switches

  • Can the pool be left empty during installation?

Only temporarily and only according to the engineering instructions.

Fiberglass pools should be filled as backfilling progresses to prevent movement or distortion.

  • How do I ensure the pool stays level?

    Use:

    • A professional laser level

    • Correct base profiling

    • An appropriate levelling procedure

Pools must be level to tight tolerances to maintain warranty.

  • Do DIY pools still include a structural warranty?

Yes. All shells include a 25-year structural warranty, provided installation complies with:

    • Engineering

    • Approval requirements

    • AS/NZS standards for installation

  • Are equipment warranties valid for DIY installations?

Yes — equipment warranties remain valid when installed by a qualified person according to manufacturer requirements.

  • What ongoing maintenance is required?

    Same as any pool:

    • Correct water balance

    • Regular filtration

    • Occasional vacuuming or robotic cleaning

    • Seasonal adjustments

  • Do you offer technical support for DIY installers?

    Yes. We provide:

    • Phone support

    • Email support

    • Equipment setup help

    • Guidance interpreting drawings

    • Troubleshooting assistance

We support your project every step of the way.
